Hey, Dr. Abby. I was going to start him on the one, true James Bond. Really I was. It's just he had it in his head he really wanted to see that movie and, shudder, Goldeneye for some reason. I've held him off on the latter for a while so I can get some classics from my side of the aisle (Tron, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, that sort of thing), but I have the feeling his Bond -- you should pardon the expression -- Jones is going to surface again. I just hope I can talk him in to the good stuff.

Richard,

I have seen this movie and agree, it deserves a minus 5 dudes. Back in the 60's, I discovered Ian Fleming's James Bond. I was 16 at the time and asked my parents for the Bond Series of Books Fleming had written. They got me the all that were available at the time, I think 10 or 12 books in all.

I devoured them. I still love to read those old books from time to time. Anyway, my first introduction to Bond on the Big Screen was Dr. No with Sean Connery. (I saw it at the drive-in with my boy friend at the time) NOW that Sean Connery was a man for any 17 year old. I still have a "heart throb" for him some 40 years later.

Although Dr. No, the movie, was fairly close to the actual book, I still loved the book more. Same with the subsequent Bond movies I saw in my teen and later years. After Sean Connery, there just were no more truly Bond characters. The rest were merely imitators of the original, and in my mind, Connery was the best.

So maybe you should try Speed Racer out on one of those early Bond movies with the first, and the best Bond, James Bond, vodka martini, shaken, not stirred.

Thank you, Dr. Abby. I get seriously angry at this sort of thing. I mean, I worked hard on all those papers, plus I made my living by writing words for a long time, and the idea of people just buying the words they need to get something done really chaps my cheeks. Glad to hear I'm not the only on this bothers.
