As a rule, I’m not normally in favor of anyone going back and adding on to someone else’s work.
And, yes, I realize that makes me somewhat hypocritical considering I’m still reading comic books and the like, the characters in them having been created decades ago and now in the hands of just about anyone but the original creator. However, those were created with the intent that the character would continue.
There are other works, however, where the story clearly was over. The story told. And, yet, still people went back and added to the original story. Dudes, I don”t like that.
However. . . However, I’m thinking I might have to change that stance in the next couple of months. I’ve been seeing the following preview and, dudes, I’m liking what I’m seeing of Oz the Great and Powerful.
Yeah, this does look good. Although I’m not sure how it fits in with the whole Oz story we learned in The Wizard of Oz. In that story, the Wizard was a feeble old man hiding behind showmanship. He didn’t really have powers, nor did he seem to have much in the way of great about him.
This proto-Oz seems to be a completely different character. Still, though, as long as we can watch this without thinking it’s in the same universe as that original story, maybe just sharing some character names and settings. . . I think this just might work.
One thing’s for sure, though, those flying monkeys still are really, really creepy.Share on Facebook Tags: A Dude's Guide To The Awesome!, books, Character Names, Comic, Comic Books, Decades, dude, Flying Monkeys, Great And Powerful Oz, Old Man, People, Proto, Reading Books, Showmanship, Universe, Wizard, Wizard Of Oz, Wizard Oz
