One of the parts of Christmas that my little dudes and I love/hate the most is the tradition of singing Christmas carols. They really love to hear these carols as the whole Christmas season begins. However, once it’s been going on for a while, say around October or so, those carols begin to wear on our collective ears.
That’s when I start whipping out the odd, the unusual and the downright strange carols.
They’re actually pretty easy to find on the internet. Just google around and give it a try.
However, I’m here to give you a quick listen to one of those songs. It’s by Fountains of Wayne and it’s called I Want An Alien For Christmas.
Enjoy.

Dear Richard,
Thanks for sharing. I too come to the place where I grow weary of the Christmas music, but ussually in early Nvember. Years ago, when my dudes and one dudette were little and still at home, I started a tradition that did not involve the music. We began watch several movies that became our tradition each year: “The Bishops Wife” with Cary Grant and Loretta Young, “The Miracle on 34th St” with Maureen O’Hara and John Payne, “It’s A Wonderful Life” with James Stewart and Donna Reed, and “A Christmas Carol”, various editions over the years. The most recent edition with George C. Scott. We still watch them over the Chritsmas Break when they are home from jobs and college.
In addition, when they were really small, I began reading to them the Chronicles of Narnia over the entire month of December. By the end of the month, we would complete all seven volumns.
I have read that series for over twenty years now, and I never grow tired of the story. My children all have their own copies and they tell me they continue the tradtion in their homes and dorm rooms.
I believe the gift of teaching them to read and appreciate literature was probably one the greatest gifts I could have given them beyond unconditional love and acceptance.
My three dudes are all growing into succesful young men. Number one Dude, known as he who lives on a mother board, is completing his PhD at the Univ of Utah. Number two Dude, known as he who would rather live on the sea, is working in Norway as an electrical engineer and completing his work to one day become the Captain of the Norwegian Line Love Boat. Number three Dude known as he who is always in the clouds, is working at the Univ of Kansas on his BA in Areonautical engenieering. And my little dudette also known as she who walks with book in nose, is working on he BS in Biology at the Univ of Kansas with plans to a doctor.
All this to say that as I read your blog, you and your wife should be very proud of your parenting and your dudes. You are indeed influencing them in positive and fun loving ways, expressing to them your love in many ways.
Good Job, Big Dude and Dudette! And Merry Christmas
Glad you liked the post, Abigail. Glad to hear your not-so-little dudes and dudette are doing so well. Hope you had a great Christmas.
