The Last Triathlon Post

So, it turns out the crazylady wasn’t so very crazy. Well, I mean, she is, but not in this instance. Okay, strike that. She is crazy. So were the other 749 people who wanted to do this insane thing.

The good news is that she survived. The even better news is that I survived. Well, it’s even better news for me.

The not-so-crazylady finished her 140.6 mile event in 13 hours 44 minutes 06 seconds. Let’s look at that again. She exercised for almost 14 straight hours. Without stopping. Even when she was changing, she was still moving and still getting exercise.

If you break that down, she was moving at more 10 miles per hour for 13 hours 44 minutes 06 seconds. That covers the swim, the bike and the marathon run, as well as the time spent changing into the different clothes necessary for the different parts of the event.

That, to me, is amazing. I’m really proud of the crazylady. She set herself a massively difficult goal and then she went out there and accomplished it. Not only that, but she beat her projected time by more than an hour.

That alone almost makes up for having to carry her up two flights of stairs, having to force her to drink water and then eat something. And then drink more water and then eat a little something more. Then drink some Gatorade. Yeah, her body was seriously worn down, but she did manage to actually get some sleep and woke up the next day feeling pretty good.

Of course, now, three days after the event, she’s got a migraine. But I’m sure that’s got nothing to do with the iron distance triathlon.

The little dudes and I also survived. We were stuck out in the cold and the damp for long hours, waiting for out 137-second glimpse (in total) of the crazylady during the event and when she finally finished. We were really put out and tired. The little dudes and I figured we deserved a rest. We’d had a hard day.
