What? What? What?

Runaway

by Richard

I wasn’t exactly running away, but I did spend most of last weekend in a different state from my home in North Carolina. I met with three buddies of mine from way back in the day. So far back in the day, it was probably nighttime. Anyway, I’ve known them for a long time. We try to get together every year for a couple of days to have fun and renew the bonds.

This year we went to Florida, visited Universal Studios, lazed around, and saw the Gators beat the Arkansas Hogs. A good time.

The best part, though, was that I didn’t have anyone around whom I had to care for. No breakfasts, no lunches, no dinners, no football practices, no getting to the bus stop, no taking to or picking up from school, no homework and no getting up far too early.

Yep, that’s right. I had no little dudes with me. Heck, none within a 600 mile radius. It was nice.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I love my little dudes, my family and all, but — every once in a while — I’m convinced that it’s a great idea for you dudes to get away by yourself. Or at least away from your family for a couple of days.

It allows you to recharge your emotional batteries, roll away stress like water off a duck’s back and basically helps you be more you when you make your triumphant return. Which, you know, I just did.

Now I’ll probably spend the next week catching up with the stuff that didn’t get done while I was gone, but it was definitely worth it. If you can, you should definitely try it.
