I’m thinking it might be time to change Sarcasmo’s name here on A Dude’s Guide. Right now, I’m thinking George might be a much, much more appropriate name for my oldest little dude. It’s not that he’s any less sarcastic. Oh, no. Not that. He is still even more sarcastic than am I and that’s saying something. No, the reason for the name change is a recent incident.
Therein lies the story. Of course. And here it is.
As you might recall, Sarcasmo got his driver license in August. Well, thanks to help from his grandfather (Hi, Dad!) and grandmother (Hi, Susan!), we were able to get a new-to-us car for him to use now and his younger brother, Zippy the Monkey Boy, to use later. It’s a Hyundai Sonata, 2007, and we all loved the car and got a great deal.
So, yea us.
The other day, I was out with Speed Racer at his football practice. I dropped him off and then had to go shopping to get a trident for Zippy the Monkey Boy, bring it back to the house and have him spray paint it for a report in school. I was driving down our street just as Sarcasmo was headed out of the garage and to the car so he could drive to tae kwon do. I decided to be helpful and stopped outside the driveway, so he would have a clean pathway to back up into the street.
Sarcasmo got into the car, started it up and put it in reverse. All of a sudden, he swerves violently to the right and accelerates. Right into a tree. He freaked. I freaked. The damage was relatively minor, a bumper, the plastic of the brake lights and some damage to the right rear quarterpanel.
Now, his mom and I knew there was going to be an accident. Of course there was. He’s a 16-year-old boy. An accident is pretty much a given. Therefore the whole trebling of our insurance. The fact that this accident did not involve another car, nor did it injure anyone. . . Well, that’s a plus. Hopefully he will learn from this.
He said, alternately, he saw me waiting for him at the end of the driveway and got distracted, or his foot slipped from the brakes to the gas. Either way, he’s all right and that’s good.
So, you’ve heard the story. What do you think? George, right?
