What? What? What?

Freaky Friday: Lockdown

Last month, I talked about how locks are a parent’s best friend if they don’t want to have intimate encounters suddenly interrupted by inquisitive little dudes or dudettes. Well, it seems as if there is one dude who didn’t get this message.

Meet Marc Weber Tobias, a lock maker’s worst nightmare. Tobias grew up fascinated by how locks work. He spent hours and hours tearing them apart and then finding ways to make them open, especially without keys. You might know him as the man who got your bike stolen. See, he figured out how to open the unpickable Kryptonite bike lock using only a pen. Yeah, seriously.

Anyway, he’s been running around breaking into locks for years. He thinks of it as helping to make things more secure. Lock makers and locksmiths think of him as a royal pain who they wish would just disappear.

Anyway, I just read a fascinating article in the latest issue of Wired and I thought you’d enjoy it. Have at it and let me know what you think.
