It seems that here in North Carolina, we’ve got ourselves a married lady governor. Her name is Bev Perdue. Normally when a man is the leader of a state or nation, his wife is called the first lady. We don’t have that much experience in what to call the man married to a head of state. Shocking, I know.
Anyway, Bob Eaves, the husband of Gov.-elect Bev Purdue, will be known as the first gentleman. North Carolina’s first first gentleman, in fact. What’s got me steamed is that he actually, specifically and roundly rejected the title of first dude. Seriously, yes, he did turn down that title.
I’m not really angry, just very, very disappointed. And I think I’ll be writing a number of letters to the man to let him know. Dude is a very dignified term. A term worthy of respect.
Okay, not really, but, still, it hurts. I’ll try to find some solace in that dude was even considered. At least we didn’t get beat out by first man or first fellow or something equally as silly.
