This year my youngest son started at a new school and he loves it. He’s doing great academically and athletically. We were a little worried about him socially since the other kids have been there for a few years and he would be the outsider. Which, aside from being a good S.E. Hinton book, normally isn’t something you’d want for your little dude.
Anyhow, it turns out we have nothing to worry about. (Or, at least, nothing to worry about now.) The other day I picked him up and then walked through the school campus to gather up the rest of the clan. Anyhow, we passed a girl who was 13 or 14 and she and my 9-year-old made eye contact. His posture changed, he stood up straighter, smiled at her and then pirouetted, YES! PIROUETTED, when he walked past her. Then he waked off with a little bounce in his step. Then we ran into a group of boys that yelled his name and came over and gave him the high five.
OMG, he’s a BOMC. That’s scary.
