Your Anguish Sustains Me

I’m a huge fan of the Florida Gators. I went there. My wife, known to many as She Who Yells Really Loud, went there. My parents went there. My grandfather actually coached there for a number of years. Heck, I was born in Gainesville, where the university is located.

So, what does all this mean? It means that I absolutely hate the University of Miami. I hate the University of Tennessee. I hate the University of Georgia. There are so many schools I hate that I have a hard time cheering for anyone that does not wear orange and blue. I know this is wrong. I do. I know it. And, believe me, I’m trying my best not to pass this along to my little dudes. I don’t want their lives to be defined by hate, no matter how delicous it is.

I mean, I love it when Florida State loses, or Tennessee loses, or any of a number of schools can’t actually win. It’s very, very sad that I can’t disengage my hatred and show my little dudes that life is more than just me versus you.

Heck, I’ve had to even moderate my own hatred because my father-in-law is a University of Miami fan and the wife of one of my best friends is a Florida State University fan. (both of those universities, of course, suck huge donkey *****) Ahem. So, yes, I’m trying my best not to become that sort of annoying fan you see at the opposing team’s stadium.

It’s not working. No matter how much I try to slow down and not annoy the other guys, I know in my heart I still enjoy it when they lose. God, I love it! I really do.

So, yes. You lose and I love it. So lose some more.
